HydroTap’s superior filtration technology Q&A
Water quality is the heart of what we do at Zip Water. We have driven drinking water filtration and technology, pushing innovation to ensure our customers enjoy pure-tasting, crystal clear water, on tap, glass after glass. Here we’ve broken down how our filtration works, so you can understand the Zip difference.
What is Zip MicroPurity?
MicroPurity is Zip’s filtration technology system, proven to reduce 99.8% of impurities and potentially harmful contaminants from your drinking water, including those you can’t see, smell or taste. These include parasites such as cryptosporidium and giardia, sediment, lead, limescale, chlorine and bacterial growth.
What is triple action technology?
Zip filters use a three-pass process to filter and purify drinking water. The first is a pleated membrane, which removes particles greater than 5 microns. A fiberdyne treated carbon block then removes anything larger than 0.2 microns (an impurity that will fit 250 times into a strand of hair) as well as microplastics, lead, chlorine, bacteriostatic effects and cysts. The scale inhibitor reduces limescale and helps prolong the life of your HydroTap.
What makes Zip filters different?
Zip filters are tested and certified to strict NSF Standards, which promote public health, safety, sustainability assessment and the environment. Only genuine Zip filters are tested and certified to NSF Standard 42 (Aesthetic Effects) and 53 (Health Effects) to ensure they meet the highest standards. A compatible filter may fit into the command centre however it may not offer the same performance. Make sure it is tested and verified to AS/NZS 4348:1995 – this relates to performance testing and is specific to filters and certifies your filter will reduce impurities and potentially harmful contaminants. But remember, only genuine Zip MicroPurity filters are tested and certified to the highest NSF Standards.
What is the lifespan of a Zip filter?
The maximum life of MicroPurity filter is 12 months from the time it starts being used. After 12 months the filter performance declines, and contaminants in your drinking water will begin increasing. This is not always noticeable by taste or smell, so it’s best not to rely on your senses. Other impacts of not changing your filter can include the internal tank inside the HydroTap command centre taking longer to fill. To ensure the best performance, taste and purity, Zip filters need to be changed every 12 months, or when alerted to by your command centre.
Can I change the filter myself?
You can change Zip filters yourself by watching our easy to follow instructional video. For optimal performance, we recommend one of our preventative maintenance HydroCare plans, where a qualified, factory-trained Zip technician can look after your HydroTap, including an inspection, sanitisation and filter changer.
